Learning by Copying

In my class at the JCC Bayonne we are learning by copying. The students have chosen all different Master Portraits to copy. This is my finished demo. Thanks to the Staten Island Museum in 2011 I saw in person two paintings of children, a brother and sister by Late 19th-Early 20th cetntury Staten Island artist Adeline Albright Wigand. I immediately fell in love with them and have used them as inspiration in many of the commissioned children's portraits I have done recently.
I finally got the opportunity to copy one of them...even though I worked from a terrible photo I took of the real work at the exhibition.

Below is a  quick light on form demo with payne's gray, raw umber and titanium white.

Open Studio/Holiday Fair Success!!

Here I am in my beautiful studio at Snug Harbor during a wonderful Open Studio and Holiday fair. It was a great day at the Harbor, festive and booming with people. It was great to have so many people venture up to the top floor of Buliding H to visit the studios. It was the first time up there for many and some didn't even know there were artist studio there. It was great to show people we are there and we do great work!! My "ferryscapes" on NYC metro cards were a huge success. I sold all that I had and took orders for two more. I also sold an all time favorite bellydancer drawing to a great friend. Yep...a good day it was.
Also it was wonderful to have my 6 year old daughter there to see people coming in, responding to my work and buying it!!! Oh yes....many did admired her works around the studio too but, sorry folks none were for sale.
